Goaltending / Goal Scoring Clinics Starting February 8th
1/27/10
Starting on Februrary 8th at 4:30 PM with the squirts and PWs, Tri City Eagles will offer a series of advanced clinics for ALL TCE Players covering goal scoring and goal tending.
Jason Wolfe and I will design and run "game situtation" drills which focus on mobility, quickness and accuracy by players to produce highly challenging shots on goal tenders (higher probability scoring opportunities, for our goalies to read and respond to).
Depending on the number of goalies at each session, we will run 2 or 3 stations for high intensity small area drills involving 2 to 4 players at a time.
Goalies and players will get a high number of accurate shots in a short amount of time.
Tony MacAulay and Chris Buchleitner will be available along with a number of TCE coaches from each team to instruct TCE players on improving their shooting and scoring skills in a dynamic, highly mobile environment.
On Monday, 2/8 at 4:30 PM and 3/1 at 5:00 PM, all players and coasches from the SQUIRT and PW team are invited to participate.
On Tuesdays, 2/9 and 2/23 at 4:30 PM, players and coaches from the BANTAMS are invited.
On Friday, 2/12 and 2/26 at 4:30PM, these clinics will be open to ANY TCE player.
Please note: we will want everyone ready 10 minutes before ice time to go over the drills for that session.
We do not want to waste ice time describing the drills on ice.
There is no charge for these sessions.
Coaches and managers, please get a head count of your players who are committed to attending each session and forward the headcount to me this week.
Goalies, please confirm your attendance by email.
Because we will be working in team based units, there is room to adjust this schedule a little.
Thank you, Coach Sals.
Tri-City Eagles Win Gold/Silver From Lake Placid!
1/15/10

Last weekend 3 Tri-City Eagle teams, parents and friends descended upon Lake Placid, NY for some winter fun.
Bantam Blue, Bantam Gold and the Pee Wees made the trek north to the home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics.
The weather was very snowy, the temps were in the teens and the fun was non-stop.
The kids went tubing, skated in zero degree temps on the Olympic Oval, and played outdoor hockey in a mini rink with college players home for the winter break.
We were up early and out late nearly every night.
And yes, all three teams played some great hockey:
Bantam Blue Bantam Blue faced 2 Canadian and 1 Vermont team.
Playing with superb goaltending and just 11 skaters, Bantam Blue recorded 2 shutouts, gave up just 3 goals, and won 4 games.
The championship game against a tough team from Ontario was tight the whole way as Bantam Blue took a 2-1 lead into the final 8 minutes of the game.
Withstanding a furious charge from the Canadians, Bantam Blue held on to bring home a championship.
Captain, Will Seiferth was named the tourney MVP and Jordan Farley, Bruce Stachitas and Zach Satin were players of the game during round robin play.
Bantam Gold Bantam Gold started the tourney with a rather dull first game where they blew out their first opponent.
From there the play got tougher, rougher and very competitive.
Needing a win in their 3rd game to advance to the championship, Bantam Gold played an up and down game against a tough team from NY.
Goalie MIke Finn withstood a furious onslaught over the last 2 minutes and made a final glove save from point blank range to preserve the win with 7 seconds to go.
And that wasn't the most exciting game.
Bantam Gold played a very good team from Vermont in the championship game.
They battled this same team in the round robin to a 0-0 tie in a goalie duel.
The Championship can't end in a tie as Bantam Gold played well throughout the game that ended in a 1-1 tie after overtime.
The shootout then went 7 rounds as Bantam Gold came up just one shot short.
Bantam Gold players winning awards were Peter Dudley as best shooter, Mike Finn as best goalie, and Ryan Grimes for the Sportsmanship Award.
Pee Wees The Pee Wee team won 2 of their 3 round robin games to earn a spot in the championship game against the Mass.
team that beat them earlier 2-1.
The Pee Wees felt good about the upcoming championship because the earlier loss was from a game at the crack of dawn, after a late night of Lake Placid fun.
Playing on better rest the Pee Wees jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.
They controlled the championship game throughout and finished with 4-0 win.
Their opponent finished with just 15 shots on goal as it was clear that Tri-City was the better team.
In a selfless act of team unity the Pee Wees presented the tourney MVP award to their injured teammate, Brando Kobernick.
Although Brando was unable to play, he was there the whole weekend and his presence was always felt.
Winner: TCE Winter Wonderland Photo. The Stulman family of the bantam blue team show their true colors Pee Wee players winning awards were Tiger Lindsay, as best shooter and Zach Howes as best goalie.
All three teams had a great time as we painted the town blue and gold.
Tri-City was everywhere around town and certainly the teams to beat on the ice.
Special thanks to TCE Goalie coach Sals Adams and TCE GM Clai Carr for making the trip to watch and cheer with the parents.
And thanks to Lake Placid, perhaps the best venue around for youth hockey tournaments! .

The 16th season came to a glorious close as a great group of players and families came to celebrate the season and to say good-bye to our seniors.
After a delicious dinner prepared by Famous Dave's and served by the pee wee players and parents, each player was presented with their TCE puck noting their unique contribution to the past season.

Yearbooks were also handed out to each family.
Four of the teams had DVDs of their season playing during dinner.
A long standing tradition is that each senior who concludes their youth playing career with TCE receives the jersey as a keep sake of their time with the club.
This is done in appreciation of their leadership to the organization.
In turn, each senior provided for the squirts a message that they want the younger players to remember as they continue their playing career.
The first picture shows the seniors receiving their jerseys while the second one shows Senior Tim Good "passing forward" his message.
Carnegie Mellon, US Military Academy at West Point, US Naval Academy, University of Maryland, Duquesne University, Towson University and UMBC.
Lastly, Mrs.
Arlene Linkous completed a lengthy period of leadership for the event (7, 8 or 9 years) and was presented a flower arrangement in appreciation.
Thank you Arlene! We will miss you. .
